Understanding Children's Health
Children’s immune systems are still developing, making them more vulnerable to infections. Parents and caregivers must recognize common childhood illnesses and know when medical intervention is necessary.
Common Childhood Illnesses
Common Cold & Flu
More frequent during Nairobi’s cold season (June-August).
Symptoms: Runny nose, sneezing, mild fever.
Treatment: Hydration, rest, and warm soups. See a doctor if the fever persists.
Diarrhea & Dehydration
Common in areas with water sanitation issues.
Symptoms: Frequent loose stools, fatigue, sunken eyes.
Treatment: ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) and medical attention if severe.
Malaria
Prevalent in coastal areas like Mombasa.
Symptoms: High fever, chills, nausea.
Prevention: Use mosquito nets and seek medical help for any fever.
If symptoms worsen or persist, consult a doctor immediately. Novamed Wellness Clinic offers expert pediatric care.
